Table Tennis Coaching – Beginning and Advanced Levels
There are thousands of academies and training centres where many young and old players are trained for different sports. Experts from different aspects of the game help those who are new to the game and these experts are normally termed as coaches, trainers
or instructors. Mostly coaches are the former players of the sport who have dominated the game in their era and they have a deep understanding of the game.
Trainers use different approaches in order to coach their client and it can be done either individually, in groups, over the phone, online coaching or in person. Online coaching includes different videos, websites or web chat discussions that are designed
to help the client. Table tennis is a sport played between two or four players and different types of training programmes are available to master the game.
There are different levels of training divided into two basic groups, beginners and advanced. Beginner’s level as the name implies is for the players who are new to the game as it gives them a step-by-step guide to polish their skills. A typical beginner’s
level table tennis training guide includes handling the racket (the table tennis bat), forehand push, forehand drive, backhand push and backhand drive.
One can never master the game only by reading the rules, the coaching guidelines or even by watching the videos. That is why there are practical drills in almost all the coaching tutorials. Practicing the abovementioned strokes repeatedly can guarantee that
one can start playing the game with another contestant. Once the basic strokes are understood and the player believes that he has developed good control over the ball, training can move to the next level.
Beginner level skills cannot be mastered overnight as practise is the only talent required to learn the basics of any game. The next level of game is the advanced level which adds different new strokes in the game and is necessary to earn points over your
opponent. The main shots in the advanced game play include forehand loop, backhand loop, pendulum serve, advanced push, flicks and smash.
Learning a good attacking service is important as it has been observed that all the leading players of the game have a unique and difficult service. Different kind of spins and techniques are combined with the service to make it hard for the receiving player
to return the ball. Those techniques include side spin, reverse side, top and side spin.
Having a good foot work is important as moving around and contacting the ball at the right incident is a crucial aspect of the game. It has been observed that top players always step around the ball and make sure that their body is in the best position before
making the contact with the ball. It helps them in delivering the ball exactly where intended and one can dominate the game easily by having controlled footwork.
The biggest benefit of good footwork is that if a ball is placed at the left corner of the table and requires a good backhand strength it can always be turned into a loop by stepping around quickly. Stepping around can be dangerous at times and it is suggested
that once a player decides to use that approach he should be able to generate a strong topspin that is hard to control. For a right handed player the ball shall always return at the right side of the table after stepping around.
