Question:

Tablet suddenly won't work JUST BECAUSE THE PEN FELL?

The tablet pen falls on the floor gently and suddenly the entire ******* tablet won't work. Its a "Bamboo Fun" tablet, for anyone who cares. I've uninstalled and reinstalled 5 times, downloaded a new driver, and restarted the computer numerous times. At first only the pen didn't work but now the mouse that comes with the tablet won't work either. And the little b*****d tablet knows when one of them touches the surface because the light on it lights up, but it still won't let them WORK.

What is wrong?! Is it honestly that delicate of a piece of ****?

Note I'm incredibly angry, so sorry about the cursing.

  1. Don't take the tablet apart! That will void the return policy. If you've only had it 17 days and it's stopped working, I'm certain Wacom or the store where you bought it would replace it.

I had a similar problem with a Wacom Graphire, but I just replaced it because it was old and rickety anyway. I don't know about the tablet itself, but the pen is quite delicate - the problem with mine was that the tip had moved just slightly and so it was over-sensitive and thought the pen was clicking all the time. I imagine the opposite is quite possible as well.

If you've tried everything obvious I can only suggest that you return it for a replacement - you may have a faulty unit.

  2. You must've dropped it just right . . . or just wrong . .

It doesn't sound like it's the software, so I would try troubleshooting the tablet itself. You might take the tablet apart and see if there's anything loose inside (it's probably going to be just a circuit board and a few small cables). You may have to remove the rubber pads on the bottom of the tablet to get to the screws holding the whole thing together.

I dropped my pen once and it came disassembled. I carefully put it together again, skeptical that it would work again. But it did.

Good luck. You may also want to contact Wacom and see if they have any suggestions.

  3. I have the same tablet, and I can guarantee that I've dropped it and accidentally thrown it many more times, and both the mouse and the pen still work. What might have happened is that your computer isn't registering that the mouse and pen are trying to move the pointer, but I'm not positive, because restarting the system should have fixed that. If you can, take it back and explain that it's not working anymore, as long as you have a receipt, you should still be able to trade it in.

  4. Be sure and check your USB plug in.  It's possible it could have been loosened or unplugged around the time when the pen was dropped,
