Tachometer Guage?

my car does not have one(standard transmission), and I was hoping to get one installed or put one in myself. About how much do you think it would cost to get a mechanic to do it. Also about how many hours so I don't end up getting ripped of. I could possibly do it myself but I don't understand the basis of how to install it or what I install it too. All input is appreciated it.

  1. To put in a tachometer it should only take a mechanic about 30 minutes or so depending on the type of vehicle. I work at a car lot and see how they run the shop and i would assume they would charge you an hour of labor, plus parts. Usually it is at a rate of 80 dollars an hour and tachometers run from 30 to 120 dollars so if I was you it should not be over 150 dollars unless you get a top of the line tach and then it will be closer to 250 dollars. I hope this helps you.  If you do it youself it might be off a little so if you can afford it it would be better to have it done.

  2. You can buy tachs for various prices and  at most auto parts stores. The type engine (4, 6 or 8 cylinder) also makes a difference in which one you'll need. Installation, by someone who knows what they're doing,  should only take an hour or so. Once you pick the tach you want, get a price for the installation before having it done. Get quotes from several mechanics so you don't get ripped.
