Ok, so my trainer has been begging me forever to get a wood tack trunk for over-night horse shows. I need one with a sliding panel and a bandage lid. I would prefer a grooming box but that is not necessary. I looked on SmartPak and I found one that I liked.- One problem: It said the height was 25'' and thats only about two feet. Do you think they are including the lid and the bottom trim? Also, I already found one in Dover except it is only 24''. I need a really large one! I live in Pennsylvania- BTW. Thanks- Below is the link of the SmartPak one.

  1. The one that is in the website listed above.. will be pleanty big. My trainer told us that we needed to get one as well. Mines on it way!! =) But my trainers trunk is about that size and she has room to spare. Good luck at shows my friend

  2. The wood trunks are beautiful, but they aren't extremely practical as was mentioned. Being set on much less than a clean floor they turn dingy quick. Water, mud, 7 am dewy grass is all going to weaken it. If your tack trunk will stay in the trailer or in an extra "tack stall" during these shows then that won't matter quite as much. 25" is plenty high enough. A saddle will fit and still allow the lid to close. It's amazing what you can fit in them. You can go the budget route (although by the price on the smartpak trunk I'm not sure that's much of an issue in your case) by getting a large rubbermaid container from a home improvement store or wal-mart. I did that, spent $9 and it has been with me 10 years now. My horse budget has to go towards more essential items, but I love it, withstands anything. The dimensions listed are generally the total height, width, length unless they specifically specify otherwise.

  3. 25" inches is plenty big, even on the large side.

Mine's about 20"ish (I think). The only time I use it is every July when I go to the Jr/YR USDF dressage championships, and I can fit everything I need in it for 3 days except my saddle, so I think you will have plenty of room.

That's a great looking trunk by the way!

  4. Hello,

That should be more then able to meet your need. If you are unsure about your size, I thave this tack trunk:

and it is a MONSTER! I love all the space that it has because I can find everything easy in the clutterd mess I leave it in, lol. I am not sure about the quality of Smartpacks trunks but Beval has great quality and they are well worth the price. What you could also try doing, if you are unsure about the smartpack one, you could find a carpenter take a pic of the trunk to him, and tell him the sizing that you want, that way you can have the size you really want. I have done this with a few of mine and its nice because you can customize them, ive had roller wheels put on mine and its much better then handels, you get them back usually in a shorter ammount of time, and they tend to cost less because they are not coming from a company.

Overall, if you are unsure I would try the Beval one I linked to you or go custom. Those would probably be your best to options.

Oh if you want to go MONDO on your tack trunk you can try this one:

it is bigger then big and I know some people who have it and say they love it because it has the Bandage Lid, Gromming Tote, and Saddle Rack right in the truck!

    Good Luck!

  5. that size is more then big enough.  we use this one  http://www.bigdweb.com/detail.aspx?id=25...  From Big D's for competitive events of 3-4 days.   I used to have a wooden one very much like the one you show.  The down side is, a traveling tack trunk gets kicked, scraped, nicked, rained on, Set in mud..or worse.  The wooden one looked horrible in just a few months.  The plastic one from Big D's looks just fine after a wipe with armor all.  and its water proof.

  6. I will be amazed if you manage to run out of room with this trunk. I think that once you have all your necessary stuff in there you'll be amazed at the amount of room still available.

    Nice trunk by the way!!
