Question:

Tacking a auto back?

My husband bought a truck from the dealership 11 days ago. We have to it back to get serviced, and it has a computer and wireing problem. We have been told by several people that the truck is always going to have problems know that the computer is been missed with. We are wanting to give the truck back. The down payment has not been cashed and the lender told me to today that is between use and the dealership. How does that work? Do we have a grace period to take it back?

  1. Who told you that?!?  Vehicles are so computerized that they frequently need computer repairs and updates just like your PC if you want to keep it running smoothly.  You are not always going to have a problem with it unless your dealer stinks, and even then, they can call motor company engineering/tech assist for further instructions.  If it makes you feel more comfortable, check your state's lemon laws and find out how many cracks at the problem they get, but I assure you it is more than 1.  If you don't want computer problems, you'll have to buy a pretty old car.

  2. Usually, the rule is that once you have signed the papers and the vehicle is completely off the sellers lot, the car is yours and no longer the dealers problem. The only way you can return a vehicle is if you have a return policy stated clearly in your contract.

Scan your contract over and look for loop holes regarding returns. If anything, call the dealership (pretend to be someone else) and ask about their return policies. Don't let them know you are a customer, that way you have a better chance of getting the truth.

    Good luck!
