  1. start a bit slow then increase ur speed after 200m thenkeep it same till last 400m and increase ur speed to max for last 400m.

  2. Personally...(and on a 400m track)

Here's the physical: I work with splits. ..My coach stands at the 200m mark and yells splits at me, and I do everything I can to hit them.

    Mentally..

It's all about mental trust me. I run the first 800 steady but quick. Then..actually no, the first 600. But then when I have 1000 meters to go, I think of all the 1000meter repeat workouts I've done, and let go and just...Run. you know? With 800 to go, you want to forget what you've been doing. Act like it's the 800 meter run and just shoot out.

Who cares if you're tired. That's kind of the point.

and of course...last 200, all you have. You want to be on your knees at the end.

Oh and yes..in the words of some famous runner.. It's not like you're going to die running, you'll pass out first.

    and hey that's impressive.

i almost forgot. If you're running with competition close to you, ride on their shoulders. it pisses the h**l out of them and lets them do all the work, just make sure you have them at the finish line. :)

    goodluck!

  3. try running distances longer than a mile do some hill work and some speed work
