  1. yes!!!!

  2. Yes, you can. I fight in Olympic Rule TKD Tournaments. You just can't grab, or punch to to head.

  3. Yes, you can. But I wouldn't recommend it. The typical  tournament usually has a fighter fight at least four to five bouts. If you keep blocking kicks with your hands, how long are you going to last before you can't continue?

The "standard" WTF player usually don't condition their hands, so it's not a good idea to block attacks with your hands. The best thing to do is evade.

Unless you can't avoid it, at which time the best block is not a block at all but a parry combined with body movement/evasion, however slight.

If your instructor or coach is well-versed in Olympic-style competition, he'll be able to teach you all these things and help you condition them.

    Hope that helps.

  4. Yes you can.

I don't advise because of how matches are scored.

There are 3 corner judges, each has a red and blue buzzer in their hand.

Let's say you are blue, if you throw a round kick to a legal scoring area, 2 of 3 judges must press the blue button within 1 second for the score to count.  They don't count light contact, so the judges are often listening for a specific sound.  So the judge might see part of it, hear the sound of you blocking, and not realize that you blocked it.

In other words, the sound of you blocking a kick is very similar to the sound of the foot hitting your hogu (chest protection), so the judges get it wrong alot.

It can also be devastating to your hands.  I know alot of people that have been training for years and have messed up hands from blocking.
