  1. A good concept granted!!!

But wing chun have excellent leg techinques, just check out Gary Lams videos and you'll be amazed :)***

  2. It would be a really good mix you wouldn't have to worry about the gap that both alone leave. You should also try doing a grappling art, that way you have all ranges covered.

  3. Yeah, TKD will fill the gap in kicking that wing chun leaves, however I think you'll find that wing chun on it's own is a more useful art for self defense. The kicks that they do use are for entry into hand range. From there they use a variety of leg /foot traps to make sure that the fight stays at a range that is advantageous to the WC fighter.

  4. I'd say so, but it's not so much those techniques as it's ranges. Wing Chun is great for close quarters, and Tae Kwon Do is generally good for long range combat.

  5. Taekwondo is sport fighting, with many rules.  When you train for sport, you will supress many of the most dangerous (advantageous) ways of fighting to stay within the parameters of the sport.  On the street, your trained reactions will not be optimal for survival.

Wing Chun is for the real world where there is no referee, probably multiple opponents and you have limited choice over the terrain (how about a crowded nightclub, a hilly street, stairs, slippery streets, etc..).

Combining the two could be an exercise in redundance: the reason why you don't see Taekwondo style kicks in Wing Chun is because there are already more efficient ways of shutting down your opponent integrated into the Wing Chun system.  Then again, learn both and come to your own conclusions.
