  1. It's all up to the individual fighter, and this is coming from a 18 year Okinawan karate veteran. I have fought TKD people in class that use elbows and knees, and use locks, throws, and chokes, so it would all come down to how they trained.

  2. Fights are not won and lost by styles or belts, they are won or lost by individuals.

    James

  3. I'm not so sure, it would depend on how good both the fighters were. Also, i'm not sure about taekwondo but the karate I do we concentrate mainly on discipline until we get a bit older (late teens, but depends how good you are) So it would also depend on the age of the fighters.

  4. competition taekwondo (limited)<< karate

    traditional taekwondo = karate

  5. At first I was not going to bother answering this question. Until I saw some of the responses. Taekwando is very misunderstood. I find even some Korean practitioners do not fully understand it. Taekwando has it's roots in Karate and northern Chinese martial arts. If if a Taekwando practitioner has been trained in the whole art and not the sport version it is a very formidable art. Plenty of blocks, holds, redirect, and pressure point techniques. You will find some moves even resemble Wing Chun Kung Fu.

As in any fight who can determine the outcome? The fight goes to the person who is most fit best trained and has luck in his favor. One of the champion TKD fighter for years in a row knew only the white belt form of TKD. His key to success was knowing it very well and training very hard.

I have to add that many instructors of Taekwando have  only ever been exposed to the very commercial sport type Taekwando. and have never seen much of the traditional older Taekwando.  I have been lucky and privileged to learn from someone who was trained "old school". He learned it back in Vietnam in the 70's From friends he had made in the Korean Tiger division.  and than from a master in the USA who taught the " unbroken" art to us "round eyes". We have Black belts come from other schools often say "we never were shown that before!"

  6. I believe Karate would win, all other things being equal. Karate has a wider range of moves than does Taekwondo.

  7. karate

  8. it would depend on a lot of factors including the way each fighter is trained.
