Tai Tzu Ying upsets Wang Xin in Women’s Singles round-of-16 of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series
Chinese Taipei’s aggressive shuttler, Tai Tzu Ying stunned third seed, Wang Xin of China in the Women’s Singles round-of-16 of the 2011 Japan Open Super Series, in Japan, on Thursday, September 22.
Tzu Ying has been playing quivering badminton for the last six months but she is back in killing form as she defeated World Number Three, Xin of China in the round-of-16 battle and advanced into the Women’s Singles quarter-final of the Japan Open. World
Number 19, Tzu Ying finished the battle in three games by taking 52 minutes of hard labour.
The Chinese was the favourite for this contest as she has been in good form for the last few months, but Tzu Ying destroyed her hopes of reaching into the quarter-final of the event. The Taipei shuttler delivered a wonderful performance and emerged as the
winner after a thrilling contest.
Xin opened the game in a slow and relaxed manner, which helped the Taipei shuttler to get a good flow. By playing positive badminton, Tzu Ying won the first set with a remarkable margin of 21-13 in 15 minutes.
In the second set, the Chinese played fast badminton in the start and earned a good lead against Tzu Ying, who became a little slow. The Taipei lady tried to catch up with Xin, but failed this time as the Chinese was playing a better game. At the interval,
Tzu Ying was three-points behind her opponent at 8-11.
After the break, the Chinese continued playing fast badminton and kept her opponent under pressure. Tzu Ying made some mistakes in the second-half of the set and lost it with the score of 16-21 in 17 minutes.
Both shuttlers played to their maximum potential in the final set of the match and reached at 20-20 when Tzu Ying executed perfect strokes by manipulating the weaker areas of her Chinese rival and won the set by a margin of 22-20 in 20 minutes. The end result
of this round-of-16, 52-minute battle was 21-13, 16-21 and 22-20.
