Tainted trio named in domestic T20 squads
The internationally suspended trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif have all been selected by their respective domestic teams in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 for the regional T20 tournament to be played in
October. Amir was selected by Rawalpindi, Butt for a look-in from Lahore while Asif may play for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sialkot-c842. The three cricketers were provisionally suspended by the International Cricket Council after their alleged involvement in spot-fixing during Pakistan’s
recent tour of England.

The ICC had decided to suspend the three cricketers after the
News of the World had exposed an illegal betting ring which heavily implicated the trio. The tabloid claimed that Asif and Amir had bowled deliberate no-balls against England in the fourth Test match at pre-decided moments in the game in return for
huge sums of money. Bettors in on the scam would then know to place wagers on no-balls being thrown at specific times, with huge payoffs on their odds.

However, according to the ICC rules, the players will not be able to participate in the tournament. The rules stipulate that the unless the Pakistani cricketers are cleared by the ICC, they will not be allowed
to participate in any competition that is held, directly or indirectly, under the auspices of the ICC.

This includes all international cricket and the domestic tournaments held by the respective cricket boards at the first class level.

According to the code, no player or support staff member who has been provisionally suspended, will not be allowed to play or coach or participate in any capacity in an international or “any other kind of
match, function, event or activity, other than authorised anti-corruption education or rehabilitation programs that is authorised, organised, sanctioned, recognised or supported in any way by the ICC, a National Cricket Federation or any member of a National
Cricket Federation,”

The three cricketers have appealed against the suspensions and an independent commission will hear their case. Until such time, the trio will be kept out of the Pakistani cricket team as well, and there is
a good chance that they may miss the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in October.
