Why US government won't recognize Taiwan as an independent country? Taiwan is a democracy country, people can elect their own government. Taiwan's people live under the threat of China's 1000 missiles.

  1. Blame this on the UN.That organization de-legitimized Taiwan.The

US is probably it's only friend.

  2. Taiwan IS an independent & we should recognise them as such.

  3. The people of Taiwan shouldn't live under the threat of missiles. I don't think anyone in this world should live like that. The US government doesn't recognize Taiwan as an independent country because they do not want to disrupt the status quo. The US agreed with China on "The one China rule" during the cold war. This was a way to derail another country's support for the USSR. And this has been the status quo since Nixon was in office.

Being American, it is easy to understand why Taiwan doesn't want to become under communist rule. But in all reality, this is a Chinese matter that should be resolved by the Chinese/Taiwanese people without going to war.

They need to understand each other and that they both need one another. Especially China, they believe their recent economic gain is caused by the people of China, which is totally false. If you go to Shanghai, China and walk down a commercial street, you will notice over half of the businesses are owned by people from Hong Kong or Taiwan. They need to understand China didn't grow so fast on their own. The people of Hong Kong and Taiwan helped open China's doors to the world.

  4. Because we don't want to p**s China off. We dont want them to cut off trade with us in retaliation. But we do sell them weapons and have an agreement to defend them in case China ever attacks.

  5. Because they can't see any dollars in supporting Taiwan

  6. Because if the US recognizes Taiwan as a separate and independent country, which it already IS and has been for decades, then Red China will get upset.

This "One China" policy that has existed since the Nationalists fled to Formosa seems very silly to me. It's a stupid and silly diplomatic charade that everybody can see through. Why Red China insists that Taiwan is theirs is beyond my comprehension. I guess it is due to the inherent imperalistic and violent nature of communist government.
