Taiwan’s Jun Lin Chang beats compatriot Chei Wei Fu at Fujairah: 2012 World 8-ball Championship
It was like dismantling master’s house with master’s tools when Taiwan’s Jun Lin Chang nudged his teacher for past ten years, compatriot Chei Wei Fu, down in the final encounter of 2012 World 8-ball Championship.
He surely surpassed his master but at the same time, he did make him proud at the Fujairah when he claimed the title clinching all-Taiwan final clash by the score line of 11-6.
Chang put up some excellent potting skills during the championship and with impressive potting genius, he was able to make his way into the final encounter of the event. The Taiwanese reached the final match up against his own teacher of pool after he ousted
England’s Chris Melling by a gritty score line of 9-7 in the semi-final clash at the same venue.
The 26-year-old Chang displayed his pattern reading abilities from the start of the event which carried him through tougher situations during his tournament campaign and he was able to breeze into the title victory in the end. The spectators gathered at
the Fujairah saw some outstanding potting display from both master and apprentice during their ultimate battle.
Speaking to the local media after his victory, Chang said, “It’s like a dream to be a world champion. It’s something I dreamed about for a long time. I didn’t feel any pressure playing him. He taught me more than just how to play pool. He taught me how to
be a man in real life, how to carry myself, how to behave and lead your life, don’t criticize and get down on yourself too much.”
Fu, on the other hand, added, “I played bad in the final. I felt like I ran out of energy. I’m very happy for him. I’m proud. But I think I would have preferred to have played a player from another country.”
Chang started learning about pool from the 38-year-olf Fu when he was just 16 years old. They travelled the world together to participate in different pool tournaments. Beating his own master in the final of World Championship was a great feeling for Chang
not just because of his accomplishment but also because he made his teacher proud.
