Taj Burrow aiming to go big in current season of ASP World Tour
Taj Burrow is one person who has had it pretty tough since getting incepted into the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour in 1998. The 33-year-old Australian professional surfer is recognised as one of the best athlete in the sport, possessing
an ability to put on spectacular performances in the most demanding of surfing conditions. His skills and experience are matched by only a handful of other surfers, making him one of the most formidable competitors in events.
Despite all his qualities, Burrow has failed to get his hands on the most prestigious honours in surfing, the ASP World Title. The coveted title has eluded him on numerous occasions despite him coming off as the strongest contender for the coveted honours
quite consistently. He always finds himself frozen after reaching the No.2 spot on the overall World Tour rankings, consequently forced to finish the season in runner-up place and thus returning home without eh crown.
The current season of the ASP World Tour is turning out to be no different for the immensely talented and vastly experienced surfer. Into his 15th campaign for the coveted World Title, Burrow is looking as good and pumped up as ever. His determination
to finally make it to the top is apparent in nearly all his heats, even the ones that he fails to prevail in.
The 2012 ASP World Tour kicked off with Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast at Snapper Rocks in Gold Coast, Australia. With the best surfers from around the globe making up the competition field, the 33-year-old Burrow was clearly in for a tough challenge. The likes
of 11-time ASP World Title Kelly Slater and Australia’s Mick Fanning were in contention for the event title as well, thus making the road tough for Burrow.
As the first stop of the elite tour kicked off, Burrow failed to get off to the best of starts. He ended up succumbing to Hawaii’s Fredrick Patacchia. However, he managed to bounce back strongly during the Round 2 heat to eliminate America’s Dane Reynolds
and eventually reached the third round, where he continued his excellent run of form to move get himself recognised for their recognised talent.
Taking the better of his fellow countryperson Adrian Buchan in the Semi-final, Parkinson made his way into the Final where he got pitted against the in-form Adrian surfer.
While De Souza was nothing short of great during the Final, Burrow managed to out-perform him and thus claim victory in the very first event of the season.
With a perfect start to the season, Burrow made his way to Bells beach to compete at Rip Curl Pro in Victoria, Australia. The Australian surfer did not get off to the best of starts succumbing to his rival during his Round 1 three-man battle.
However, Burrow managed to remain alive in contention for the event title by defeating his compatriot Davey Cathels to move into the third round. Finding himself in yet another do or die situation, the ASP World Tour veteran found himself pitted against
his fellow countryperson Kai Otton. The latter put on a superb performance during their Round 3 clash to eventually claim top honours and advance through into the next round, while forcing Burrow out of the event.
Burrow did not have the best of forms at Bells Beach, but the season is far from over and Burrow is expected to make waves as he pursues the coveted ASP World Tile this year.
