Taj Burrow defeats Travis Logie in Round 3 of Quiksilver Pro France – 2011 ASP World Tour
Quiksilver Pro France, the eighth event of the 2011 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Tour, continued to deliver high intensity action as Australia’s Taj Burrow took on South Africa’s Travis Logie in the 10th heat of Round 3. The
contest went down at La Graviere, France on Sunday, October 9.
The match-up between Logie and Burrow turned out to be a real nail-biter, with both surfers fighting tooth and nail until the very last minute. In the end, however, it was the Burrow that walked away with top honours, securing his place in the next round
while pushing Logie out of the contention for the event title.
The shifting five-foot waves gracing the primary event site had proved to be quite challenging for the surfers throughout the day, making it extremely difficult to earn big scores. However, the 33-year-old Burrow had no problem in adjusting to the conditions
and bringing forth an outstanding performance during his showdown with Logie.
The South African did not allow his intimidating Australian rival to walk away with a convincing victory and made him work really hard for it, making the outcome of the battle quite uncertain until the very last minute.
As the 10th heat of Round 3 kicked off, the two competitors got off to a humble start and collected a series of mediocre scores. Almost half-way through the heat, Burrow let go of his inhibitions and unleashed a combination of exquisite tricks
on a wave to post an 8.00 on the scoreboard. Logie was quick to respond with a 6.77-point wave, successfully shedding some pressure off his shoulders.
As the heat progressed, the South African turned the tables on his Australian rival by going all out at a juicy wave to add an additional 8.57 points to his account, moving to a heat-total of 15.34 points. The score was undoubtedly an extremely one under
the conditions at hand and was bound to test Burrow.
After a short yet effective hunt, Burrow got his hands on a really promising wave in the dying minutes of the heat, which he utilised to pull out a series of impressive tricks from his arsenal, collecting 7.47 points for the effort and edging past Logie
with a heat-total of 15.47 points. The 0.13-point deficit forced the South African to surrender victory to his rival, consequently getting eliminated from the competition.
