Taj Burrow notch the highest heat of the day: 2011 Billabong Rio Pro
Taj Burrow of Australia notched the highest heat of the day at the end of the first round of the 2011 Billabong Rio Pro at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil on Tuesday, May 17.
Burrow clinched the third heat of the day with a sterling score of 16.33 out of 20, while Ricardo Santos of Brazil took the second place with a total score of 11.17 and his team-mate, Alejo Muniz, finished third with a score of 10.60 in the following heat.
“It was kind of scary for a second there, right when they decided to start the competition the wind started howling, but then it cleaned up heaps. I got two fun ones at the start so I’m happy. I got two fun ones at the start so I'm happy,” said Burrow.
Taj is a well known surfer of Australia today. He is best known for his natural speed, vigour and versatility in surfing.
Taj participated in many renowned surfing events in the world and has captured many titles in surfing. Burrow took home the golden title in the 2007 Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach in Australia. He won the Billabong Pro event in the same year at Jeffreys Bay
in South Africa. He clinched the golden crown in the 2009 Billabong Pipeline Masters at Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii. Besides, Taj Burrow has won many other fabulous surfing events.
Earlier, Owen Wright of Australia won the opening heat of the day with an inspiring score of 13.60 out of 20. Heitor Alves of Brazil stood second with a score of 7.67, while Bobby Martinez of USA earned third with a total score of 7.47 in the following heat.
Wright was looking very pleased and satisfied with his performance in the first heat of the initial round of the Billabong Rio Pro at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil yesterday.
The event started after a week of laydays at Arpoador. The world's best surfers had to wait for a long time just because of the hazardous weather conditions at Rio de Janeiro in order to vie in their own surfing events.
