Take Charge Indy, another Breeders’ Cup Juvenile hopeful works ahead of the race at Churchill Downs
Chuck and Maribeth Sandford and Secure Investments owned 2-year-old colt, Take Charge Indy, is the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile prospect, which is to be held at Churchill Downs on5 November, 2011. The race is run over at a distance of 1 1/16 miles and
it is restricted for 2-year-olds.
The son of A.P. Indy, out of Take Charge Lady by Dehere, Take Charge Indy clocked a bullet five furlong in 1:00 3/5 minutes at Churchill Downs on 21 October, 2011.
The juvenile colt’s workout was recorded in fractions and he was ridden by jockey James Graham, and the pair exercised on a muddy Churchill Downs track because they took over the track right after the renovations break.
Trained by Patrick Byrne, Take Charge Indy broke his maiden over the synthetic surface of Arlington Park over at the distance of six furlongs on 30 July, 2011, and in the process he defeated Ville and My Samurai who finished second and third only to cover
the distance in 1 minute and 12.52 seconds.
Take Charge Indy was then stretched out in distance in his next start when he started in the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Futurity over at a mile also at Arlington Park’s synthetic surface under his regular rider James Graham.
On 10 September, 2011, Take Charge Indy just couldn’t go past the furiously fats paced Shared Property, who covered the distance of a mile in 1 minute and 37.93 seconds as Motor City finished behind Take Charge Indy for third.
Take Charge Indy further fell away in his next start when he represented his connections in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland over at 1 1/16 miles.
Poly Track it was, yet again for Take Charge Indy, and the synthetic surface felt good under his feet but his introduction to longer distances and high level juveniles was taking its toll on the colt.
He fell away to finish 4th on the day behind Dullahan, who won the race, Majestic City second, and Optimizer third, as Dullahan covered the 1 1/16 miles in 1 minute and 43.12 seconds on 8 October,2011.
