Take Charge Indy ready to go after his work at Palm Meadows Training Center
The 3-year-old Grade 1, $2 million Kentucky Derby bound colt, Take Charge Indy, posted his last work at Palm Meadows Training Center for the Run for the Roses on 5 May, 2012, at Churchill Downs, as the Patrick B. Byrne trained colt turned in five furlongs in 1 minute and 2/5 seconds.
Susie Bricker, the exercise riser, was aboard the Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby winner, and the pair worked in company with Zimmer, as their run was time in fractional splits with Take Charge Indy going the quarter mile in 11 3/5 seconds, and 23 3/5 seconds and covering the half mile marker in 47 3/5 seconds, and galloped out six furlongs in 1 minute and 14 3/5 seconds.
It was a magnificent work by Take Charge Indy, and on a day where the usual Kentucky Derby suspects went out to train, Take Charge Indy caught everyone’s attention with his blistering work, who showed his connections that he is ready to go.
“He’s just going to go back to galloping,” Byrne said of the remaining schedule for Take Charge Indy. “I schooled him in the gate Tuesday, so we don’t have to worry about that. All we’ll do at Churchill next week is gallop over the track. He may two-minute l**k a little, but he likes the track. He worked a bullet prior to (last year’s Breeders’ Cup) Juvenile. He doesn’t need to do anymore than what he’s done today. He’s really mentally sharp and ready to go.”
Owned by Chuck and Maribeth Sandford LLC, Take Charge Indy rounded off his juvenile season with a single maiden special weight win at first asking, a second place finish in the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Futurity at a mile at Aqueduct’s synthetic surface.
The A. P. Indy colt, finished fourth in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity and closed out his 2-year-old season with a fifth place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last fall at Churchill Downs.
Out of Dehere mare Take Charge Lady, Take Charge Indy in his sophomore season looked the best with the Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby win under his belt prior to the Kentucky Derby.
