Take-Two focusing on consumer satisfaction instead of stopping used games sales – Gaming news
Take-Two Interactive’s CEO Straus Zelnick has claimed that instead of whining about second-hand sales of games of next-generation consoles, the company will hold consumer satisfaction as the top priority.
The head of the publisher that is behind gems such as Grand Theft Auto and Take-Two Interactive made it clear during the Cowen Technology, Media, and Telecom Conference that they are not worrying about missing out on revenues due to the next-generation used
games sales.
Instead, they have planned on increasing their efforts to make a strong impact in the market through the deliverance of experience that is more compelling and satisfying.
Zelnick explained that instead of punishing the gamers for selling the games that they no longer have an interest in, the publisher will aim to give gamer a solid reason to hold on to their copy of the game by offering new content from time to time.
“Let's push up our quality, which you've seen in our Metacritic scores, and then let's make sure to give people DLC, often free, three or four weeks out; which is the time you're at risk for them trading in their game,” he added. “If you can keep the game
in consumer's hands for 8 weeks, you almost don't care anymore about used game sales because it's the first 8 weeks that really nail you.”
By keeping the experience on offer fresh, Take-Two expects to keep the gamer loyal to their product for a substantial amount of time.
The Take-Two Interactive CEO admitted to be hopeful that both Sony and Microsoft will give game makers an equal opportunity to participate and consequently make money out of second-hand sales of next-generation games.
By the end of this end, both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are expected to become available in the market.
Both the consoles will support used games, but the system for it has not been made clear yet.
As per the rumours circulating on the Internet, Microsoft will charge a small unlock fee to allow a user to play a second-hand game on Xbox One. The company plans upon touching the issue at the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3).
