Question:

Take a boat to Japan?

So I would like to find the least expensive way to get to Japan and I had never looked into boats before, but I am assuming that it is less expensive than by plane. Has any of the readers done this before? Or know how (with specifics)? Any cost ideas?

  1. You can try anything as you like unless you violate laws.Try what you want. No body stops you. Don't forget your passport for sailing.

You must know that It will easily costs much more to make a boat and live to sail to Japan than purchasing air ticket without thinking if you are 6 years old or more.

  2. depends on where youre starting from. if youre going off from the west coast thats impossible. id be more worried about getting stuck in the middle of the ocean

  3. pay a lil extra..you'll be at sea for ever!

  4. It's an interesting idea.

There are passenger ships to Japan only from East Asian countries.

If you are in Russia, Korea, China or Taiwan, yes you will be able to come to Japan by ship.

Popular passenger liners are Pusan-Fukuoka(Hakata)/Shimonoseki, Shanghai-Kobe/Osaka and Tianjin-Kobe. I'm not sure about Gaoxiong-Nagoya.

Please note that no ship arrives Tokyo area, that would costs you more than coming by airplane to get Tokyo because domestic transportations in Japan are always very expensive.

Several decades ago, people from Vietnam getting in a boat drifted to Japan many times. Then you may try from south-east Asian countries if you really want to take a BOAT to get to Japan, but please be carefull, the waves are so high in East China Sea as well as Pasific ocean.

  5. is it even possible?  it would take forever
