  1. It means to set aside partisan politics to take care of what needs to be done.

It's just a different way of phrasing Sen. Obama's statement that he, Sen. McCain, and Pres. Bush all want what's best for the American people.  Sometimes partisan politics gets in the way.

  2. They were saying that the hurricane was more important than the Republican National Convention - she was saying that being an American in time of hardship for other Americans is more important than the Republicans having their big party.

They are trying to show that they won't mess up things like Bush did during Katrina - that they are more aware of the big picture.

  3. I think she means that we are all Americans and we should think of ourselves that way and being, Democrat, Republican  or independent is only the way you vote. Remember we are Americans first. the way you vote comes second

  4. HATS off to all of them

  5. She is talking to the extremists in both parties. Yes there are those who consider themselves as Republicans or Democrats much more than they consider themselves as American. Sad isn't it. But that is life in these United States of America in 2008. Unfortunately for the rest of us approximately 35 to 40 % of the people in this country do not give a furry rodents rear end about what is best for the nation as a whole. They want it their way and everyone else can go to h**l in a hand-basket.

I think the rest of us ought to put a bounty on them (in my opinion all perfessional politicians) and make a lot of good old country boys rich. say make it $150.00 for the ears and tail of any politician caught not acting for the best of the comunity and the nation...........We would have a lot less fraud.

  6. I'm with you. I heard that and thought, what are they kindergartners?

Why do you need a hat? It sounded really condescending to me. She should teach pre-school.

edit: She was stating the obvious. Duh. It just reminded me of kindergarton. I was a bit taken aback by that comment when I heard it this morning. It just sounded so immature.

edit: I got what she meant but she said it stupidly. We are adults. We don't need to take off one hat for another. We can be who we are and pay attention to what is important.

  7. Sounds to me like she's asking people to not be so partisan, but to vote on what's best for the country, not what party someone belongs to.  She's referring to our thought process.  Stop thinking Democrat vs. Republican & start thinking about which individual is going to be a better leader.

  8. To me, it means wearing a Republican hat you cannot help hurricane victims or get involved in disaster relief.

And as you pointed out, why does our American hat ever have to come off. Shouldn't bipartisanship be the norm?
