  1. If the person who rings you up for a take out order is the host(ess) and not a server, I don't think you should tip at all. If it is a server who is taking time away from their tables where they would normally be getting a tip, you should tip at least 10%. They're not going to have to do as much work, but it does take time away from their regular tipping assignment.

  2. If you pick it up yourself, a buck is fine no matter how large the order. The one accepting the tip likely only bagged it for you, if that. DO tip well when you eat there though.

  3. yes I would give her $2 or so

  4. Protocol calls for at least 5% of the total bill. The standard 15-20% is for full service and most take-out servers wouldn't expect it. I work in the industry.

  5. I would give 10% because the food had to be prepared and the service is less than what you get when you eat in, but I think this is fair because it is a nice restaurant. I certainly would give much less to a pizza place and such.

  6. just put a 5 on the tab

  7. I really don't feel that a tip is nessesary in this situation.  No one served you or had to wait your table.  Handing a bag to you and ringing up your order is their job.

  8. Usually it's the person taking your order -- the bar tender perhaps -- who winds up assembling and packaging your order. He or she is just like your server and a gratuity most definitely is in order. Yes 15 percent (or more) is appropriate.

  9. 10-15% is what I would do.

I figure that a server may have had to take time from their dine-in customers to make sure the order was correct and all the sides and extras are in the bag.

Plus, if you don't want to cook your own meal, why not tip properly??

  10. Tip nothing.  Do you tip the cashier at the grocery store?

    C'mon.  Think alittle.
