Take the AP credit or take the class in college?

im taking 4 APs this year (senior) and for example, say for my AP chem class i get a 4 on the exam, and the college that im going to offers credit for APs, money aside, can i refuse to take the credit and go ahead and take the intro to chemistry class during my freshman year?

i know it'd be a waste of money but i was just wondering if i could just not take the credit that they offer and take the intro to chem class (or watever chem class you take first) so that i could learn more about the subject.

is this possible?

or, if you did take AP chem and got credit from ur college, did you skip the needed chem classes that freshman usually take or what? thanks!!!

  1. personally, I don't think ap classes are the same as the college classes.

If you are going to major in some sort of sciences, then you should retake chem in college.

  2. Most colleges take AP credit. It comes in handy when you want to graduate early or ontime. If a personal situation occurs (because they do, its life) and you can withdraw for the semester or drop a class knowing that you are still on track.

Plus, it prepares you for college better than a teacher can. good luck.

  3. Yes, you can choose to take a class you have already recieved credit for. It won't really be a waste of money because, if you retake chem, in most cases the credits you got for AP chem will become elective credits (which are also necessary to graduate).

If you plan on majoring in chemistry (or a related major) you should retake the class in college. However, if you plan on majoring in something unrelated, let's say Russian Literature, then there is really no point in you retaking chemistry (unless, of course, you love chemistry!).
