explain my year out since graduating if an employer asks. i did not travel or get another job, i stayed with the same part time job i had at uni, I found the last year of my course extremely hard to cope with as i had lost all direction as i was suffering from depression and an eating disorder and began to find it difficult to leave the house sometimes so as you can expect my grades suffered alot, i recieved a 2:2 which made me feel more useless as graduate schemes required a 2:1,

i have been recovering but at the same time basically putting things off so long an entire year has passed. I feel i am more ready to start my career search. But i don't know how the best way to explain the gap, without any experience gained, i know personally i gained back my sanity!! but i doubt telling them that is going to do much good, i need to be prepared incase i am asked, any ideas? Thank you in advance!

  1. Just tell them after you were done with school you decided to take a year off to think about what you really wanted to do.  Don't mention anything you just mentioned in your question, somethings are better left unsaid.  If they ask what you were doing past year when you were trying to decide what you really wanted to do, tell them you weren't sure if you wanted to go back to school to further your education or start your career, so you decided to do some volunteer work in your community until you made a decision.  I know that's bending the truth a bit, but if you tell them what you told us, you'll look a bit unstable and that won't help you in your interview.

  2. sojourn is acceptable in the business world.

if asked you were sorting out you life to make the best career choices.

actually 1 year is not a long time.
