  1. Your tub may be using an in-line heater, that means it's inside a pipe, just like the ones that supply your jets.  Look for a manufactuer on the controls.  The info on the pump is probably just for the pump unless it says MADE FOR.....Your local pool supply will have the proper chemicals and can also replace the in-line heater if there is one.  Check the pipes to see if there is one that's a bit larger.  ALSO, it may not be heated or the owner didn't give it to you.  You do need to resterilize after ever six people's usage.  Don't be afraid to over clean.  DO NOT USE a foaming soap, and while indulging yourself DO NOT USE BODY OILS.

Taking a shower before can go a long way to keeping it oil free.

  2. Follow everything the first answer said.  Does it turn on when you turn up the heat(assuming it was off).  If runs for hours and the heat doesn't come up then the heating element is out.  It is located in a stainless steel section of pipe usually located in the control box underneath.  I've replaced several but have experience in repairing a variety of things.
