With controversy still making headlines over Joe Janiak's alleged use of performance enhancing steroids on Takeover Target in the past (Hong Kong 2006 ban etc). what are your views on his chances at Royal Ascot next week now that he will be running 'drug free'?

Having seen the amazing Choisir do the double in 2003 where he beat first Acclamation in the Kings Stand and then Airwave in the Golden Jubilee 4 days later I say 'bring it on',

if Takeover and Magnus have genuinely been off steroids (and I am anti any drugs being used for racehorses) since 2006 AND THEY WILL BE TESTED they have every right to take their chance.

  1. fleeting spirit looks special and i can see why the bookies are making her 2-1 fav,but nick mordin on his website as made a good case to avoid her at ascot due to the fact she is a very strong and likely candidate to bounce due to not having enough rest period since her last race.

  2. Aussie here! and the bloke david g is talking about is me! the target is my avatar!

OK now, (hpc) the drug takeover tested positive to in honker's, is now banned in Australia and has been banned since November last year! it was used as an appetite enhancer for when he travels, (as he travels overseas alot) horses lose weight and condition when they are on a plane for 6+ hours, so he was given the drug to get his appitite back quickly, so he can recover from the long flights quicker, its anything but performance enhancing!! also i might add if you look into comparisons between england and australia (relating to drugs and horse racing) you will find that australia is alot more stringent on drug use they also have surveere penalties for breaches of these rules!

i think the reason the english trainers are winging...... is coz they are sick of aussie bred horses coming over there and winning there sprint races (you might say the novalty has worn off)

    drug testing.........

its funny the other night takeover target, magnus and  the new zealand horse sea-change were the only entrants for the kings stand and golden jubilee tested for drugs! is this just a co-incedense? i think not! the english are sick of handing over there prizemoney to aussies, so they will do any thing to stop them!

the bad news for the english is......... the aussies do NOT use drugs!

    his chances..........

the targets a rising 9yo, he's not as sharp as he use to be, so he may find the 1000mtr (5 furlong) king stand a little short, however the golden jubilee will be right up his alley and if all goes well he will more than likley push on to the july cup! having said that i would not be surprised if he does win the kings stand! just coz he's one of those very rare freakish horses!

and to david g..... i told you to have a little on him in the kings stand, but load up (bet big) in the golden jubilee as this is the race he has ultimatly been set for!

  3. I live near Ascot  Been going there since I was a kid Anyone who travels around the world and puts his money where his mouth is and are within the rules good luck to them I think the Aussie sprinters have been great

  4. You must have seen what happened to Big Brown and if that's an indication of what these drugs can do I wouldn't hold out to much hope. He ran like a donkey without the drugs and after examination into to his poor showing, he was found to be in good health. If you want a tip, do Hoh Mike as his price is on the slide and I did him at 25/1.

  5. dunno but theres an Aussie guy on here who is absolutely bullish about takeover targets chances and  wont hear of defeat he advised a small bet in the king stand and to double up in the golden jubilee

hear you loud and clear semi
