Takeshi Matsuda clinches Men’s 200m butterfly gold: Day five - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Takeshi Matsuda clinched gold medal of the Men’s 200m butterfly on day five of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Friday, April 6.
Matsuda, who qualified into the playoff as top contender for gold medal, elevated his pace in the final round to ensure his place on the medal rostrum for gold medal.
His gruelling efforts remained significantly ahead of his following swimmer as he occupied gold medal of the event by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 54.01 seconds.
Matsuda was followed by Kazuya Kaneda, who stayed 1.38 seconds slower form his former finisher and posted a time of 1 minute and 55.39 seconds for silver medal of the event.
The silver medallist was chased by Ryusuke Sakata, who stayed 0.49 seconds behind Kaneda, and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 55.88 seconds for bronze medal.
Subsequently, Sakata’s phenomenal effort in the playoff placed him 0.09 seconds ahead of Hidemasa Sano, who completed his swim in fourth best place by submitting a time of 1 minute and 55.97 seconds.
Sano was trailed by Kenta Hirai, who remained 0.70 seconds slower from his former finisher and settled on the finishing end for fifth position by reporting a time of 1 minute and 56.67 seconds.
The sixth best spot of the race was secured by Yuuki Kobori, who stayed 0.19 seconds behind and clocked an effort of 1 minute and 56.86 seconds.
His effort remained 0.33 seconds ahead of Yuuta Kimura, who proved his eligibility for the seventh best spot of the event and hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 57.19 seconds.
Kimura was trailed by Takuya Nozawa, who stayed 0.18 seconds slower and clocked a time of 1 minute and 57.37 seconds for eighth position of the event.
Furthermore, the session enjoyed notable swims of all contestants in the playoff of the 200m discipline while the position holders collected awards and accolades for their wonderful swims at prize ceremony after the session. Furthermore, the championship
ended after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category.
