Takeshi Matsuda dominates Men’s 200m freestyle heats: Day two - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Takeshi Matsuda dominated the preliminary rounds of Men’s 200m freestyle on day two of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, April 3.
Matsuda’s opponents capitulated as they failed to overpower him in the four-lap freestyle event and finished their races behind him. With his incredible efforts, Matsuda remained nearly one body length ahead of his immediate swimmer and faced no trouble in reaching the finishing end for top position.
Matsuda clocked an effort of 1 minute and 47.86 seconds to earn his way into the semi-finals as top finest swimmer. He was followed by Syogo Hihara, who remained 1.19 seconds slower from him and emerged on the finishing end as second best swimmer by producing an effort of 1 minute and 49.05 seconds.
The third spot of the event was obtained by Syo Uchida, who was just 0.09 seconds slower from his former finisher and clocked a timing of 1 minute and 49.14 seconds.
Subsequently, Uchida remained 0.18 seconds ahead of Yoshihiro Okumura, who settled on the finishing wall as fourth best qualifying swimmer by posting a time of 1 minute and 49.32 seconds.
Yuuki Kobori remained fifth best finisher of the discipline as he hit the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 49.35 seconds.
Next were the Women’s 200m freestyle prelims, where Haruka Ueda snatched top qualification spot of the race by completing her race in a time of 1 minute and 58.67 seconds.
Her immaculate effort remained 0.22 seconds ahead of her following rival, Hanae Itou, who made her way into the playoff as second best finisher with an effort of 1 minute and 58.89 seconds.
Itou enjoyed a benefit of almost one second over her subsequent swimmer, Chihiro Igarashi, who completed her swim in third finest place by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 00.80 seconds.
The fourth best qualification spot of the event was secured by Yayoi Matsumoto, who stayed 0.16 seconds slower and posted 2 minutes and 00.96 seconds.
Furthermore, these challengers will struggle against each other in the next round of their respective events, where winners will be awarded podium.
