Takeshi Matsuda earns Men’s 200m freestyle gold: Day three - Tatsumi International Pool, Tokyo
Takeshi Matsuda earned gold medal of the Men’s 200m freestyle on day three of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Wednesday, April 4.
Matsuda demonstrated his gruelling efforts in the four-lap freestyle event and proved his mettle for the crown of the event. With his fascinating efforts, he faced no trouble in reaching the podium for gold medal as he remained comfortably ahead of his opponents.
With his commendable start, he gained a substantial lead over his rivals. Matsuda remained prominently ahead of his challengers and ended his foremost lap of the swim by posting a time of 24.92 seconds.
His splendid effort was trailed by Yuuki Kobori, who remained nearly 0.30 seconds slower from his former finisher and completed his first lap of the event with the timing of 25.22 seconds.
Matsuda continued his nerve-wrecking form in the second lap of the discipline, where he extended his lead to almost one second by clocking a time of 51.65 seconds. His scintillating effort remained 0.99 seconds faster from Kobori, who ended his initial round
of the discipline by clocking 52.64 seconds.
He continued his pace in the third lap of the discipline, where he posted a time of 1 minute and 18.97 seconds. Subsequently, Kobori remained nearly 1.30 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and reported a time of 1 minute and 20.33 seconds for the
initial 150 metres of the swim.
The Japanese veteran, Matsuda showed no leniency to his challengers in the final lap and ended his swim in a time of 1 minute and 45.96 seconds for gold medal.
His remarkable sprint remained nearly two seconds ahead of Kobori, who followed him on the medal rostrum for silver medal by posting a time of 1 minute and 47.71 seconds.
The silver medallist was followed by Syo Sotodate, who stayed 0.44 seconds apart and stepped on the victory stand for bronze medal by clocking a time of 1 minute and 48.15 seconds.
Furthermore, the podium finishers received a huge round of applause from the audience for their fascinating efforts at prize ceremony of the championship after the session.
