Takeshi Matsuda excels in Men’s 200m freestyle semi-finals: Day two - Tatsumi International Pool
Takeshi Matsuda excelled in the semi-finals of Men’s 200m freestyle on day two of the Tatsumi International Pool in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, April 3.
Matsuda, who qualified into the semi-final as top fastest swimmer, met expectations of his fans by maintaining his pace in the second round. He displayed his smothering efforts in the semi-final and upset his competitors by finishing first in the event.
With his alluring efforts, he remained nearly one and a half body length ahead of his challengers and sprinted his way towards the finishing wall with the timing of 1 minute and 46.84 seconds.
He remained considerably ahead of his following swimmer, Syo Sotodate, who reached the finishing end as second best finisher by posting a time of 1 minute and 48.46 seconds.
Sotodate enjoyed an advantage of 0.09 seconds over Chiaki Ishibashi, who completed his race in a time of 1 minute and 48.55 seconds for third position.
The fourth qualification spot of the event was obtained by Syogo Hihara, who remained just 0.01 seconds slower from his former swimmer and tapped the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 48.56 seconds.
Hihara was trailed by Yuuki Kobori, who remained 0.07 seconds behind and posted an effort of 1 minute and 48.63 seconds for fifth position.
Afterwards, the crowd witnessed nerve-wrecking form of Haruka Ueda in the Women’s 200m freestyle semi-finals. Ueda faced tough competition from her following swimmer, Hanae Itou, but outperformed her over the finishing end for top qualifying position with
the timing of 1 minute and 58.49 seconds.
Her effort remained 0.03 seconds faster from Itou, who qualified into the final as second position holder with the timing of 1 minute and 58.52 seconds.
Yayoi Matsumoto seized third finest qualification spot of the event as she clocked an effort of 1 minute and 59.68 seconds. Similarly, Chihiro Igarashi ended fourth in the four-lap event as she hit the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 00.49 seconds.
In addition, the session ended after the conclusion of all listed events while these swimmers will face each other in the playoff to prove their mettle for gold medal.
