Takeshi Matsuda wins Men’s 200m butterfly crown in Tokyo: 2011 FINA World Cup Series
Olympic medallist, Takeshi Matsuda of Japan performed well in the pool against his rivals on day one of the final round of the 2011 FINA World Cup series in Tokyo, Japan, on Saturday, November 12. Matsuda clinched the Men’s 200m butterfly title.
Japanese swimmer, Takeshi Matsuda banged the finishing wall in a stunning time of 1 minute and 49.50 seconds to clinch the Men’s 200m butterfly title. More importantly, Matsuda thrashed down South Africa’s Chad Le Clos’ previous best meet record of 1 minute
and 50.15 seconds in the respective race. In addition, he broke Kaio Almeida’s previous best meet time of 1 minute and 49.11 seconds.
That swim moved him to top three places in the world rankings of swimming. Earlier, Matsuda won gold medal in the respective race at the 2003 Summer Universiade, in Daegu. In the corresponding race, he grabbed silver title at the 2008 Olympic editions, in
Beijing.
Meanwhile, double Commonwealth champion, Chad Le Clos pocketed silver medal by striking the finishing blockade in a winning time of 1 minute and 51.00 seconds. Le Clos had been the victorious in 200m butterfly and 400m IM during the 2010 Commonwealth editions,
in Delhi.
Afterwards, the bronze title was claimed by Kazuya Kaneda of Japan in a matchless time of 1 minute and 51.05 seconds. Hidemasa Sano of Japan also performed well throughout the respective race and attained fourth position by thumping the finishing wall in
a respected blot of 1 minute and 52.03 seconds. In addition, Chris Wright of Australia pocketed fifth position by touching the finishing cordon in a time of 1 minute and 53.90 seconds.
Moreover, Japan’s Ryusuke Sakata picked sixth spot in a time of 1 minute and 55.04 seconds and Hayato Odagiri of Japan settled at seventh place in a time of 1 minute and 55.79 seconds. Shinpei Irie of Japan got eighth position by claiming the finishing barrier
in a spot of 1 minute and 56.47 seconds.
The final round of the seven stops is scheduled to close on Sunday, November 13.
