Question:

Taking AP classes in senior years, none in junior year?

Hello there,

So I didn't take any AP classes during my junior year in high school and now I am only taking two AP classes in my senior year. I heard from people that colleges look at my junior year first, then senior, then sophomore and freshman years. I am just wondering if I am still competitive, if at all, if I apply to UC Davis or any other UC?

Thank you.

  1. Its always good to take ap's no matter what year, it will make you more competitive definitely although it is true that colleges look at junior year year first.

  2. colleges want you to challenge yourself all throughout highschool. I.E. if there are ap classes available in 9th grade you take them. if you only take them  your senior year they'll think that you slacked off from 9th through 11th grade. yeah youre still competitive as long as you have the good grades in challenging classes and the extra curriculars.

  3. it will make a difference but not as much as you think. college also like to see how well rounded you are. you can have many extra curriculars and activites and comm service and a few advanced classes, while someone can load up a bunch of classes and not be well rounded. you would be the favored one.

  4. I don't know what your test scores and GPA are, but as long as they are good and you have extracurriculars, and a good personal statement you should be okay. Yeah, junior year is important, but they will look at your senior year classes so they will see that you are working hard and challenging yourself. and not slacking off. I'm the same way- at my school last year there were no AP classes,  and this year I'm in 2.

  5. No matter what year you decided to take an AP class it will look really good on your transcript. They look at your Junior year before you Senior just because of the fact when your applying to schools you have yet to fully complete your senior year. When your doing the applications for the colleges that you choose there will be a place to put the classes you are currently taking or are planning on taking during your senior year. Since you'll be able to put your AP classes there you will be fine. I know a lot of people that didn't take AP classes until we were seniors and they still got into the schools of their choices.

    Good Luck!!
