Taking My Driver's Test in Palm Springs. Is there parallel parking & freeway driving?

I think I have enough experience behind the wheel...I have just a few questions. If anyone has taken the Test in Palm Springs recently, can you tell me if you parallel parked, and if you went on the freeway. If so, which way on the 10 did you go. & did you parallel park on the street or with cones? & is it illegal to fallow someone who's taking the test to know the route before hand? How long does the test last here? Also do I specifically have to be covered on the insurance or is minimum liability ok(?)... that confuses me in the manual. Anything else you wanna say about Palm Springs DMV? Thank you all for your help.

  1. The best way to find out what a road test consists of is to go to the DMV where you want to test and watch a few vehicles go thru the handling course, then follow a vehicle on the road and see where it goes...And, no, it is not illegal to follow a road test vehicle - driver schools do it....Freeway test driving will depend on how close to the freeway the DMV office is and the proximity of on and off ramps.

Remember that if your vehicle is still being paid for, the vehicle must have full coverage, otherwise minimum insurance or bond is acceptable...Make sure that you have current proof of coverage plus registration with you when testing.

The more you know in advance, the better your chances to pass the first time...Relax and listen to what the examiner is telling you...You pass!!

    All the best.

  3. I would hope so it is called a driving test for a reason

  4. Its been ten years since I took the drivers test in CA, but here goes:

    1. There will be freeway driving, but not parallel parking.

    2.  Following soemone wont help you much, they have several routes that they can use.  I dont believe that it is illegal, but if you obey the traffic laws and pay attention, you dont need to worry about it anyway.

    3. Test is usually about 20-30 mins

    4. By state law you only need to have liability insurance on the vehicle, but there needs to be a current insurance card in the vehicle or they wont let you take the test.

    Hope that helps.
