Taking My First behind Wheel Test In California! What Should I Expect!?

Hi I am 18 and taking my first drivers test to get my liscence in a few weeks. i have gone over pages in the drivers guide as much as i could possibly and practice driving with my mom almost every day. What should i expect at the dmv and whats the order like what do i have to do. if anyones taking a recent test or knows please let me know because i want to be prepared! also i wanted to know if you could only take the test at the dmv or if you could go someplace else. i see student driver cars al the time and wasnt sure. Thanks!

  1. If you can, go to a smaller town that has an office, their test will be much easier with less traffic and other obstacles. They usually just have you drive around the block making sure you are turning your head far enough and looking where you should be looking and stopping and stop signs. Then they have you parallel park. I don't remember much after that. But it is pretty easy. But remember NO ONE gets 100% so don't be sad if you got 85% or 90% that is still REALLY good.


  2. They'll have you make a right and left turn. You'll have to back the car up straight for about 30 feet. Make a lane change and some residential driving. It won't take long maybe 10 to 15 minutes. Make sure you know your hand signals and where everything is in the car. (Parking brake,emergency lights,defroster,windshield wiper,and turn signals) Good Luck!!
