Taking SAT Subject after Biology this year...Sophomore.?

I am considering taking the SAT Subject test following my completion of Biology this year, We have no honors or AP biology, so if I wanted to take the SAT Subject in bio-I would assume I would take it this winter (January). Do many/any other sophomores take it? I will be speaking to the teacher in the upcoming weeks, and definetly studying. Is this a good idea? I plan on applying to CMU, Fordham, and NYU. I'm an honors student, but I wonder if this is a wise choice.

I'm taking the PSAT October 15th, so I hope that this will help me prepare.

  1. It's kind of early, and from experience, freshmen and sophomore courses aren't very thorough. But of course, that varies depending on the school. Usually, it's best to take the SAT Subject tests in May or June (right after or at the end of a course), with the exception of the language listening tests which are only held in November.

Of course, I took mine in my junior year in June after taking AP Biology. I got 760.

If you have time, you might want to consider doing a little self-study. Purchase one of the SAT Subject Biology practice books from Princeton Review or Collegeboard and do a mini refresher course before taking the test.

The PSAT will only help you prepare for the SAT test (Reading, Writing, Math). Certainly it will get you into the test-taking mode and calm your nerves a little when you take the real thing, but in terms on content, it won't help too much. Don't forget to sign up for the tests before the deadline!

    Good luck!
