Taking a Driving Course and I Need Some Help?

I asked this question earlier and I was surprised on the amount of people who suggested that I go ahead with the 6 hr course.

Any way I am a 20 yr. old student and I have NO experience under the wheel of a car. I have a good idea about the rules and regulations of the road.. yet I am worried about the actual driving portion

I called a driving academy today and told the instructor about my experience etc and he still insisted that I just take the six hr. course. The six hr. course will be on a Sat and it is from 8am-2pm.

I was more interested in the 36 hr. course. I believe that it runs for about a month in a half. I have no clue how long I will be spending in the car vs. the classroom. Only problem is that this course is 300 bucks.

While the 6 hr. is only 40 bucks. I made sure that he knew that I was not familiar with a vehicle but he still insisted on this. Is it really this easy to drive a car and pass the test???

  1. the more time, the more experience. this way you will know how to respond to any given situation. the more you practice the better you will understand just how the car drives & you will get the feel of the car & what it's really like face to face.

  2. .

Whenever potential students called my company and asked "How many hours will it take to get to test standard?", my staff were instructed to tell them that they didn't know, but they would receive the highest level of instruction and would sit the test when they were ready and not before.

Intelligent people understand that all people have different levels of competence and without witnessing their driving it's impossible to pass comment.

As a general rule, approximately 40 hours is required for an average student in the UK, but it varies from student to student, just as it does for 100 maths students....

Take as many as you require to drive competently and safely.

  3. It depends on the difference in actual "behind the wheel" driving time.  It sounds like the longer course just means longer classroom.  There's not much they teach in a classroom, other than the basics of the road.  The most important thing is practice time behind the wheel, actually DRIVING.  Since you are 20 you should be able to find some friends that could ride with you if you need more practice than the 6 hour class and you have your learners permit.  Otherwise, maybe you can add more hours of driving with an instructor without doing the 36 hour class.  I would go for the 6

  4. Hi! I'm almost 15 and taking the 36 hour course. It is 30 hours in the classroom (Two 5 day weeks for 3 hours a day, Monday - Friday) And the In-Car portion is 6 hours. It is actually 12 hours because you have a partner and between the 2 it is 6 hours each, so that is 4 days long for 3 hours each.

I personally would take this class because I would feel a lot more comfortable knowing all the necessary information. Good luck!

  5. I remember your question and since you have "NO" experience then I would suggest that you go for the 36 hour course and you will learn more and become a better driver.....
