Taking a child with medical problems to disney world.?

I am taking my 7 years old to disney world in Oct. He is blind and has many medical problems. Can anyone tell me if disney world has special services for him that would permit him to ride the rides without waiting for hours. If I cant figure a way to speed the line up, then we may only be able to ride just a few rides a day. Also, because he is blind he gets very nervous in tight places with lots of people(like in a ride line). I just want him to have a good time like every other kid there. Any advise?

  1. Call Disney World Corporate offices and explain your situation.  I would be very suprised if they dont have special services for special needs children.

    If you cant find the number, please e-mail me and I will see if I can locate it for you.  There is a radio station in Dallas that takes a plane full of children with special needs to Disney World every year.  I bet they have a contact there

  2. When you book your Disney vacation make sure you tell the person you are speaking to that you need special things in the rooms (if you do).  If for example you have insulin that has to be kept cold, they will make a point to have a fridge in your room.

    I would also refer to the following site... www.allears.net  It is a great site that will not only give you the following information, but also extensive hotel pictures, restaurant menus and pricing etc.

    ^--- will describe to you a GAC ----> Guests requiring special assistance, which can be for a variety of reasons including, but not exclusive to cancer treatment, broken bones, Autism, mobility issues, sight or hearing impairment, and many more too numerous to list, should obtain a Guest Assistance Card.

    mobility issues --->  http://allears.net/pl/mobility.htm

    travelling w/ special needs ---> http://allears.net/pl/dis_other.htm

    special dietary needs ---> http://allears.net/din/special.htm

    I hope this helps you.  There is no reason why your son can not go to Disney and experience it the same as every other healthy child.  Every child should be able to experience the magic of Walt Disney World at least once in their life.  Best of luck to you and your son.

  3. My boyfriend has a niece with cerebral palsy and they went to Disney Land.  He said they have separate ride lines for handicapped individuals.  I hope you family the best and have fun!

  4. well i'm legally blind and while me and my family haven't had to use most of the possible services disney provides i have used one in particular.

    during shows we ask to sit in the wheel chair section since it is in the first 2 rows so i can see everything and they have allowed it every year since i was born in 1986. although your son is totally blind so most likely won't need that service i'm just letting you know it is there.

    one thing that you can do with out even inquiring about services is to get fastpasss for the rides that use it. its free and available for all guests to use. you put your ticket into a machine and it gives it back to you along with a slip that tells you when to come back to the attraction. then when you go back to that ride you get in the fastpass line which is much shorter than the regular line. and almost %100 of the time your wait is 15 minutes or less.

    other than that you can go to the guest services area at each of the parks and explain your situation and they will most likely give you a pass that you will show to cast members at eah ride and they will allow you to skip the line by walking thru the exit and getting on that way. or they may just allow you to go thru the wheel chair line which doesn't have many people in it so you will get on the ride quickly.

    disney prides itself on customer service and they will help you as much as they can to make your experience go smoothly and as least frustraighting as they can.

    you'll be just fine and get to do everythning you have planned to do.

    please have no worries.

    if you'd like to ask a cast member before going on your trip you can call 1-407-wdisney and ask them all the questions you want.

  5. put him in a wheelchair you can bypass all the lines.When you get there go to city hall and ask for a g a c card

  6. There are all kinds of special programs for people needing special assistance.  All you need to do is call guest services and make arrangements.

    Call 1-800-w-disney /1-407-824-2222 and ask for guest services.

  7. Disney will they what they can so your son has the best experience, don't worry.

    When you get to your first park go directly to Guest Relations and explain them your son's situation and they will give you a special card to use that you most show Cast Members when entering the rides. They will explain exactly how to use this card, and where you can use it (not valid for parades or firework shows).

    Have fun!
