Taking a flight from Europe to Mexico?

Hi fellows.

I live in Poland and I'm going to take a flight to Mexico in somewhere around 2010-11. I plan to stay there for about a month. As there aren't any direct flights available, I'm going to change in the USA, so here are my questions, what do i need (except for the passport, which is obvious), like visas and stuff? And are there any airports closer than in Washington? Any must-see places (I'll be staying in Hermosillo)? I don't rush for it but i want to get a clue.

Thanks in advance.

  1. The person above me answer most of your questions, but I should add if you so not want to go through all the problems in the US, then you can fly from several european cities directly to Mexico city and then from there to Hermosillo.

Do not worry about USA customs copying your laptop's hard drive, they do that at random and probably by the time you go there the laws have changed. Also, you shouldn't be travelling with personal data in your laptop annyways, you never know if you lose it.

  2. When you transit through the U.S. you will be required to go through a customs inspection, then wait in an intrnational travellers waiting room until your flight to Mexico.  There are no transit visas in the U.S., so travellers from countries that would normally need a visa to visit the U.S. must stay in the international waiting area til their next flight. see site below and entr your nationality, transit point and destination. Then click for the info...and youcan read about this.  Now...if you do not travel to Mexico for another year or 2, be sure to check the site before you travel to be sure there are no changes.  You will not need a visa for Mexico...just a tourist card which you will get on the airplane.  You can see this on the same site, just scroll down and keep reading below the info about entering the U.S. see 2nd site for info about Hermosillo.

  3. Hermosillo, northern mexico,  is a mid size city  cowboy town, with the best steaks in all Mexico, the people is very friendly and the city is pretty nice, dough is one of the hotest cities in mexico during the summer, can reach 50  degrees celcius, so be sure to use sun block until you adapt to the burning sun of the desert. Near by is the gulf of California and the ports of Guaymas and Puerto Peñasco, Peñasco is a touristic resort. the place is Mexican, but with heavy influence from the USA.
