Taking a vacation to Dominican Republic?

How far is Punta Cana to Puerto Plata? Is there a mean of transportation there? How much would it cost? Is it safe?

punta cana is the other end of the island to puerto plata - it is possible to fly between the two but you would need to check which airlines do it. otherwise it is about a 6 hour drive (ish?) and about 250 dollars for a taxi

Your best bet would be to take a flight from Punta Cana to Puerto Plata on one of those small commercial airplanes. You can also do it through major / well known bus transportation companies like Caribe Tours or Transportaciones Espinal, etc. You would have to take a bus first to Santo Domingo (the Capital) and then to Puerto Plata which will be about 6 hrs ride, more or less. If you travel in one of the major bus companies is very safe as well as if you do it by plane, would not recommend another way.

If you're staying at a resort, don't go off it, unless you're visiting another resort, and taking transportation provided by the resort.  Going off your resort property is not safe in the DR.

As you can reed, all the info I already given you, is correct !. The alternative is take a plane in Punta Cana (220 us one way) not included the taxi's between airports and hotels...

For doing the trip by bus ;

1. Bus from Punta Cana to Higuey : 90 rds

2. Caribe Tour/Metro bus to the Capital :150 rds

3. Other Caribe Tour/Metro to Puerto Plata 250 rds

+ taxis from and to bus stations and hotels.....

Total travel time : 9 hours
