Taking amtrak train?

sometime next week i will be taking a train to ny..but i have to change trains in boston..this is my first time taking a train. and im really nerveous about changing trains..how will i know what train to change onto..will there be numbers on the train?

Let me ask one question:  are you arriving at the same station as you're leaving to New York from?

All of the trains going to New York City leave from Boston South Station.  If that's where you're coming in to, the transfer will be easy.  There'll be computer monitors and large computer boards when you get off the train directing you to which gate your train will be leaving from.  If you have any uncertainty, ask at the Information Counter or any ticket window.

The trains don't have numbers on them, but the gate leading to the train will have a display indicating which train is leaving from there, such as "Train 99, leaving for New York at 4:30".  There'll likely be someone checking tickets at the gate, who can confirm you're heading to the correct train.

If you're coming in on the "Downeaster" train starting in Maine, you'll be coming into Boston North Station.  In that case you'll have to change stations, which is much more complex.

Do you have your tickets already?  If you do, they'll say which station in Boston you'll be using.  If not, if you'll update your question to say where you're starting from or which train you'll be using to get to Boston, I can tell you if it's all in the same station.

It's really easy.  Don't worry about it, even a kid could do it.  At a big station like Boston, there should be electronic signs saying which train is on which platform.  Just ask a worker if you aren't sure.

Amtrak is so comfortable.

You'll be fine. There will be Amtrak staff on hand to help you to connect to the right train. Easier than flying--bring a good book or a fully charged iPod.
