Taking apart a bathroom faucet?

How can I take apart my bathroom faucet so that I can clean the mineral deposits? thanks. its the kind with one head and the handle just lifts up. and do i just turn off the water under the sink? thanks

  1. Usually there is a screen housing right in the end of the faucet that you can unscrew.  That is where the sediment will be deposited.  Clean the screen/s and diffuser and put it back together.  You don't even have to turn the water off underneath the sink.


  2. right, just turn the water, hot and cold underneath the sink.  If you could get the whole unit out it would be much easier then you could soak it in a solution and it would be much easier to clean the faucet.

  3. Just remove the aerator on the end of the spout. Since you will be looking at it upside down, use channellocks and a piece of cloth (to prevent scratching) to turn it clockwise. Be careful not to let any of the small screens inside it fall out. Hold your finger partially over the end and backflush with water.
