Question:

Taking away the bottle? 22months

I nursed my daughter for 12 months and then gave whole milk bottles. She is very attached to the bottle at 22months and now she is waking and wanting a second bottle in the night and peeing through her diaper by the end of the night.

I am really REALLY tired (2months pregnant) and hate the idea of a battle to take it away. Any suggestions?

Oh and if I give her a teddy bear of anythign she throws it out of the crib. *help, she is crying right now for the bottle for her nap* - tears

  1. THROW THE BOTTLES OUT and go get some toddler sip cups. Put her milk in those and do not give her the option of a bottle anymore. She may resist and scream a day or two but when she knows you're not caving in and not going to go back she will adjust and cave in. You don't want her going off to preschool with a bottle in her hand you?

Cold turkey is really the only way at this point. Most doctors like them gone by or at 1 so it's time   If she screams at naps and bed without one, let her. She will eventually stop.

  2. The best thing to do is just start putting them away pretty soon your gonna have another baby and if it has a bottle the 22month old will take it

just remember THAT ONCE YOU TAKE IT AWAY DON'T GIVE IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Give yummy tasting things in sippy cups and water in the bottle No kid likes water she will get the hint

also reduce the amount you give at night and at naps slowing give 6oz then 4 then 2 give more fluids during the day

  3. my daugther went through the same thing. Wanting 2-3 bottles a milk a night and waking up in a puddle a p**s in the morning. Like her doctor told me give them a glass a milk before bed and that's it. It will take 1 whole week but by the end of the week your child will not be waking up in the middle of the night wanting milk, they wont be as wet and they will have more of an appetite in the morning

  4. Start diluting the milk with water.  Do it slowly very slowly until she is just drinking water out the bottle.  Likely after she is on just water she will decide that the bottle is not worth it and will stop on her own.  Worst case she will be drinking water out of a bottle for a while.  And although this isn't the best thing, it isn't the worst either.

    Good luck!

  5. lay her with a sippy cup that doesn't leak thats what i did :)

  6. Give her a little drink in a sippy cup and see if that works. or give her a "little" drink in her bottle.

  7. I am going through this right now as well.  I just went out and bought a sip cup for my son that had a nipple similar to a bottle it's soft and in almost the same shape.  When he wants a drink at any time I only give him this specific cup.  Even at night (and it's spill proof)  The cup also comes with a next stage top that is in the shape of a traditional sip cup.  I started this about 4 days ago.  So far it's working perfectly.  He refers to it as his "bup" which is a cross between a bottle and a cup.  I figure I'm slowly introducing the change to him.
