We are going on a vacation to the beach with my family. My baby is only 3 months old. Any tips/advice on how to keep them happy, comfortable, and out of the sun?

  1. Our 3 month old daughter sat in her carseat, and we had a huge umbrella covering over her!!! She had so much fun watching all the kids run around on the beach, and splash in the water!!!

  2. When my children were that little I put them in their car seat on a blanket with an umbrella over them. To keep them cooler once we were at the beach I took everything off them except their diaper. A small spray bottle of water is good also to mist the baby and a bottle of water for baby to prevent dehydration (the only times I gave a bottle). Enjoy your vacation

  3. Keep your baby in the shade, keep a hat on them, plenty of sun lotion. Also, it may sound simple but I'd keep your baby sat on a towel in case they get sand in uncomfortable places etc. And also keep them hydrated and make sure they aren't too hot or too cold.

  4. Use an umberalla to keep baby out of the sun.  Put a hat and sunscreen on your baby.  Try to limit yourself to an hour or so at a time at the beach so the baby is not out in the sun too long, and also avoid harmful peak sun hours (10-2).

Also, don't get one of those baby beach cabana tent things - we tried one with my daughter when she was 10 months old.  While it did keep her out of the sun, it felt like an oven inside it!

  5. Put baby in light-colored, light-weight clothing. Dress him in about the same amount of clothing as you're going to dress. Don't use sunscreen - there are none that are approved for infants under the age of 6 months. Make sure you have a shaded area, either an umbrella or a small tent. Bring along something soft for baby to lie on and nap, if it will be too warm for you to hold him while he sleeps. Whether you are breastfeeding or bottle feeding, make sure baby gets plenty of fluids and stays hydrated. Good luck and have fun.
