Taking boyfriend on a trail ride. He is concerned for his "friend"?

Ha ok. I am having a conversation with my boyfriend about taking him out on a full day trail ride when he visits me on the 14th. He really wants to get out and see what wildlife Arizona has to offer, but he is afraid his "package" will get hurt while riding. lol I know this is totally stupid, but how can I convince him to go with me. He has never ridden a horse before, so he doesn't know what he is talking about. Guys, is it REALLY that bad? I mean, he will survive right (I know he will survive, I mean "package" wise) I really want him to do this with me. And they will be my horses, not the nose to tail trail rides, I am going to take him on a real ride, cantering and everything. Thanks.

  1. I wouldn't know since I don't have one of those.

  2. Teach him to sit on his butt before you guys even start on the trail. A lot of beginners and people who know nothing about horses assume you sit on your crotch, which is not the proper way to ride. Tell him if you rode on your crotch, you'd hurt yourself too. Tell him so rock back on his butt and he will be fine.

  3. if his package does get hurt, well that's why you're there!

wait is that wat you meant by saying "take him on a real ride"

    nice!!!!!

  4. Any one  who has  never or  very little  ridden will be  in world  hurt  next  day  but  warm  shower  and  tynol or  what ever  relieves  it.  Are  there  different  softer  saddel  he  can  use... If its  not  his  thing  to  do then  find  something  else.  I feel if  it  was  so  painful  there  would  not  be  so many  cowboys  still around.. After  he  tries  and  relaxes  he  may  love it.  BUT another  thing  be  sure  horse he  has can  be  handeled as  horse  will pick up on his fear  and  get  panic  also.

  5. Remember people, the first time you rode....OMG he is going to be sore, probably not per-say his package, but his legs, thighs, calfs, shoulders and neck muscles are gonna scream! especially 2 days after. if you wanna get him to ride more with you why not make his first ride a little shorter.

  6. it doesnt realy hurt it is just uncofertable a little he'll get used to it

tell him to be a man ;)

  7. He'll be just fine. Unless.... you stick him in an extra small extra deep seated saddle! I've only heard of guys complain when put in say a childs dressage saddle that they had no business even riding in. : ) Tell him about the number of professional male riders and how they're "packages" are just fine and have survived years of riding. : ) Have fun!

  8. He will be okay. Tell him that he really needs to come along and he will have fun......I mean if his package was going to get hurt....they wouldnt be tht many cowboys in the world, they do it almost everyday too!! LOL Well I hope this helps you out

  9. Simply point out that men having been riding horses for literally thousands of years and the percentage of package injuries is very low over that period.

Actually I think he's having a joke with you.

  10. What about cowboys? They ride horses! They can still reproduce

  11. Tell him to man the **** up seriously..

  12. My wife is a equestrian from her younger days, and recently we purchased a horse so she could get back into riding.  I on the other hand have had little to no experience in riding, so after we bought the horse, my wife wanted me to go riding too, and so far I've been on a rental horse named George, a friends quarter horse named Kally, and a Palomino whos name I don't recall, and the only time I had a problem with my "package" was when was riding the palomino.  The stirrups were too small (the saddle belonged to a petite woman) and I gave up trying to keep my feet in them.  At some point we all went into a trot and since my seat wasn't the same, things banged around a few times.  It hurt a bit, but I'm pretty sure I'm still able to have kids.  So here's my advice: Sit up, stay balanced, keep your heals down,  don't ride bareback, and if worse comes to worse, get a Tennessee Walker.

  13. I don't know any guys that go horseback riding where I live but some do when their gf's go. I wouldn't have him cantering if he has never been on a horse though! That will probably put him off of ever trying it again! Start slow with him maybe give him a horse that has a smooth walk and trot. There are guys that are really good and ride horses(Olympics and Grand Prix)... so I'm sure he would be find pain wise.

  14. I've never heard a guy complain of soreness in the crotchal area but an inexperienced rider after a full day trail ride will have some serious sore legs for days.  I would suggest a half day ride so he can still walk when you finish the ride.

  15. i don't think he'll have worry about that, just remember to tell him to sit on his but.

An all day ride would be great, but if he hasn't riden or riden for a while, he could get a bit sore (thighs, neck, back, legs etc), esspecially on the 2nd and 3rd days after riding lol.

We've all been there and experienced that.

    So maybe 2hours max.

    GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN

  16. get a BIG saddle.

lots of room to well uhh...adjust.

    ;}

  17. wear a friken cup and deal wit it!

  18. Running for a beginner will make him be in some pain, as he's not used to it. Stick to a very slow pace.

  19. judging by his present attitude, just tell him that he can;t be neutered twice, so not to worry

  20. The only things that should be hurting will be his inner thighs.  Possibly his lower butt, lower back.  Maybe his calves, knees, or ankles.

You gotta remember that he is not used to riding AT ALL.  He is going to be in pain...after you're done.  That really doesn't bode well for him going again with you.

I agree with shortening the ride to about 2 hours.  Even that may be too much for a total beginner.  He'll be achey and a little stiff and sore the first day...but he's going to do some serious whining the second and third day.  And most likely he will not want to move around...which makes the problem worse.

As for his 'package' it will be fine.  I've know guys that ride in boxers, briefs, or go commando...none of them ever hurt their 'package.'

Also...be very careful about loping a horse with a beginner.  They don't know how to balance.  They run the risk of falling off, dropping the reins, or never getting out of an extended trot.  And we all know that is WAY more uncomfortable than a lope/canter.  And it scares beginners.  They don't know how to relax in the lope either...I hate to pound on this...but I really don't think loping/cantering is a wise idea with a beginner.  I really don't...
