i want to feed my new bunny more than just pellets...ive been looking around and so far ive found that carrots, apples, banannas and broccoli and timothy hay are good but no lettuce and cabbage is not so great...any other foods and are these safe?

also is pedialyte and goats milk okay or just plain water best since he is a weaned bunny?

will it get along with a ferret?

what is the deal with this epilepsy/sudden death in lionheads? is it true?how common is it?

i think he may not be pure bred considering he only cost me $37 at a pet store....

i am new at owning a rabbit any help from you experienced people would be appreciated..........

  1. A pure breed Lionhead from a breeder would cost between 25-50 dollars. You would then have a purebred rabbit with a pedigree and a guarantee. Should never buy rabbits from a pet store. They are often taken from their mothers too young which can lead to health and behavior problems.

I have not heard of Lionheads having seizure problems. They do have the problem of loosing their manes as they age.

Ferrets were originally domesticated to hunt wild rabbits for humans. Ferrets like to kill and eat rabbits. They are enemies. I would keep them apart.

  2. I have a great website for you. Written by vets and has bunch of articles about rabbits.

This one is about general rabbits care:

    http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content...

Print this one for reference later.

After your done printing and reading that one, type in rabbits in the search at the top and it will give you a whole list of articles about a ton of stuff.

Since he is weaned...timothy hay, fresh greens, fresh veggies, fresh water and occasional fruit is fine for him now.

As far as getting along with a ferret, you are on your own. Sometimes  rabbits can be territorial, but since he is still young, you might be okay. You may have to just try them out together and see, but be sure to be in the same room, so you can break them up if anything happens.

  3. I had a white rabbit years ago that I litter box trained and it's really easy if you start as soon as you get one. Scooter ate carrots, alfalfa, timothy hay and the pellets. My guinea pigs got a gourmet blend with pellets, alfalfa blocks, timothy hay.  They were all young and never given ANY milk.  They have vitamins that you should give them in their water. I now have 2 female rats - and feed them Oxbow Regal Rat food.  Dr.'s Foster & Smith sell it on-line, and the also have Oxbow Rabbit food. I've done lots of research on what is best for my rats and found that the Oxbow is the best, so you might want to check it out for your bunny.

I've never heard about epilepsy/sudden death in any rabbits - I'd do a search for a "rabbit" help site.

As for the cost it sounds like that price is correct for a pure breed as I've seen them locally for around that price.  They are the cutest little rabbits I've ever seen!

    Good Luck!
