Taking care of bearded dragons?

I really love reptiles and am considering getting bearded dragons.

Do you know of any websites that would tell me the temperature the require in their basking zone, dietary needs besides crickets, water amount, etc.?

Any tips from bearded dragon owners?

  1. i have 2 beardies, they are fine on a diet of crickets and veggies. they've never had mice. they get some kingworms for a treat once in a while. i have a gopher snake, i get frozen mice from the store, i wouldn't want to keep killing them, i just get a little bag with 1/2 dozen at a time and throw it in my freezer. i use a heating pad on low to warm them up. beautifuldragons.503xtreme.com is a good site. good luck.

  2. i hav a bearded dragon and i woz lookin for sites like u. but just dont worry about websites they dont tell u everything anyway just keep a u.v light a basking light and a heat mat with it...feed it on crickets and locust and mealworms when its older...bearded dragons dont chew there food too much so the meal worms might eat the lizard...and get a hognose i hav a cornsnake and every1 does and they get borin

  3. you have to also give them real mice too they like to hunt for their food

that's a good site in regards to veggies. beardeddragon.org has like 4 caresheets off of the site as well but just google bearded dragon/care sheet and you'll find a lot of info.

hognose and corns aren't hard to keep in captivity. Feeding them frozen is actually preferred so that'd be fine. I feed all of mine frozen unless they only take live.

  5. First off, you can feed ONE frozen pinkie mice to an adult bearded dragon at most ONCE per week. They are extremely high in fat! Do not feed live mice.

    Try www.beardeddragon.org

    or

    www.reptileguides.com

There are also groups on yahoo, such as pogona, which are very good to join.

Read as many sites as you can and please don't cut corners with the set up. Saving a few quid by buying a less than adequate uvb bulb will cost you hundreds in vets bills!

One tip I have that is quite important: don't leave crickets and other food items in all day. When feeding, remove most if not all of the furniture and drop in your crickets. Then remove all crickets before putting the stuff back in. This is the best way to make sure you get them all out, because your dragon will be a very heave sleeper and is unlikely to wake up when the crickets get hungry and start biting. Dragons have died from infections resulting in cricket bites.
