Taking care of my little siblings?

Alright, so my mom has to go to the UK with my stepfather for 4 days to take care of some things. Now she asked me, if I would be willing to take care of my younger siblings. I'm 15 and me and my 14 year old stepbrother were asked to take care of the other kids. They are 13, 12, 9 and 6. I'm responsible for my age and so is my stepbrother so we should be able to handle it. I mean, I can cook, clean and care for my sisters.

But do you think my mom is being a responsible parent? Or should she hire a babysitter who is about 18 - 20 years old?

  1. I wouldnt look after four other kids..

not without an older person with me.

I think your mums being a bit irrisponsible. Ask her to get a babysitter, for your own safety.

  2. For 4 days, there should be an adult in the household.  What she is asking of you may even be illegal.  Depends on what state you are in etc.  I mean for 5-6 hours while a couple goes out to dinner & a movie, it's okay for parents to ask older siblings to watch the other kids.  To ask a 15 year old to stay home & watch 5 kids.  Stupid.  No offense to you, but there should be an adult present.  Considering they are going out of the country, it could be considered abandonment and you kids could be put in protective services if you have some nosy neighbor who calls the cops.
