Question:

Taking care of my lop-eared's ears...?

I just bought an adorable lop ear rabbit today and I got to thinking about her cute little floppy ears...You'd think that all sorts of bacteria and gunk would get trapped in there, right? Is this something I have to keep and eye on or is it never really an issue?

Thanks a bunch!

  1. Rabbits are meticulous about keeping their ears clean, as well as the rest of their body. You shouldn't have to worry about the ears on your rabbit. I would suggest that you watch for any signs of ear trouble, but generally there shouldn't be any.

Ear trouble signs are: head tilted to one side all of the time,

very frequent scratching of the ears,

                                          loss of balance,

                                          loss of appetite,

                                          weight loss.

The above are just a few noticeable signs that there could be a problem with your rabbits ears. If you notice any of the above symptoms then check to make sure that the ears are clean. If the ears are clean, then it could be a different problem that would require a trip to your local vets office.

Hopefully this has helped you out, and enjoy your rabbit.

They can make the best pets.

  2. I have a lops rabbit too, and as to the ears. Have no fear, they clean them all on their own. I've never seen it be a issue, but if there is a problem with the rabbit's ears they will generally tilt their head.

    Hope it helps!

Congrats on the new bunny friend!
