Taking care of toilet accidents?

I have been taking care of my 7 year old niece and today she came home from school crying and told me that the had an accident on the bus (#2) since school started she has been nervous and she said that she thought she could hold it but she couldn't and ended up having a complete p**p in her pants. She was crying and upset and kept on telling me that she was sorry. Anyway, I have done thiings like change diapers but this was completely different than I ever thought because I have never dealt with such a huge mess before. Is it almost the same as changing diapers? I just decided to give her a bath but it made a mess in the tub and another thing to clean up. Isn't there a less messier way to clean kids up without everything becoming a whole lot messier?

Tell her its okay, they it will be fine, take in the bathroom, remove her clothes, put her in the bath with bubble bath, and tell her to relax, everything will be fine, put her clothes either in the sink, while she takes her bath, or in garbage bag till  she is through, afterwards take her clothes in the bath and use the shower on them (which will dissolve any of the remains down the drain), then put them in your washer and wash them, afterwards pour bleach down the tub drain.

I would suggest cleaning off the worst of the p**p with a wet cloth, then giving her a bath or shower to make sure she is really clean.

Don't be too hard on yourself.  You couldn't have anticipated that looking after a 7 year old child would involve dealing with messy pants and it sounds like you handled the situation reasonably well.  Give yourself a pat on the back!

I agree with ahmazing, but I also think you should talk with her mother about possibly having the teacher make sure the child goes to the bathroom regularly, or at least before she hits the bus( as discreet as possible, though).

Well, I would suggest when that happened would imeddiatly take her clothes off and throw the soiled underpants away or in the washer, dryer or hamper. Then, I would wipe her bottom off with a wet cloth, or something wet and can wipe the p**p off her bottom. After, that I would suggest giving her a bath, that way she can be clean.
