Question:

Taking care of your teeth

I know they say that you are meant to brush twice a day to protect your teeth from cavities, but there are times where I only manage to do it once a day. Is this really bad?

I don't eat sugary foods excessively, but they are not completely eradicated from my diet either. I'm going to visit the dentist after nearly 2 years now to get a check-up.

Am I going to need fillings? I have three already and don't want to get anymore!

  1. There is a possibility you may need fillings, but I don't think you will. Since you do at least brush your teeth, I doubt you have any cavities to deal with. I could be wrong, but that's my take on the subject!

    Good luck.

  2. If you have cavities then yes you will need fillings, you dont want them to get any worse. They recommend you brush twice a day, but to be honest I think most people only do it once. Just make sure you start flossing if you dont already. That will help also.

  3. I agree with Kayla, you may have a cavity, but most likely not if you are brushing and flossing daily.  If you do have a cavity when you go in then make sure you ask your hygienist to refresh you on correct brushing and flossing techniques. Sometimes people brush a lot but aren't doing it correctly or for a long enough amount of time (at least 2 minutes). Make sure you are angling your toothbrush correctly and not brushing too hard.  Definitely ask your hygienist to make a few suggestions if you need to improve- that's what we're here for- prevention!
